Session 4: Debate Battle – “Is Individual Lifestyle Change More Impactful Than Policy-Level Interventions in Combating Climate Change?”
Cue the fireworks! This high-stakes debate saw participants go head-to-head, arguing whether individual action or policy reform carries more weight in the fight against climate change. The room crackled with intensity as impassioned voices clashed, making it one of the most thrilling moments of the day.
As Day 1 wrapped up, the YesEarth Team took a moment to reflect on the whirlwind of insights, gearing up for an even bigger challenge: Day 2’s high-intensity climate negotiations.
Day 2: A Deep Dive into Climate Diplomacy
Day 2 took MCOP 2025 to the next level, shifting gears from discussions to action with a full day of simulated international climate negotiations. Participants stepped into the shoes of world leaders, policymakers, and environmental advocates, tackling real-world climate challenges in real time.
Special Session: COP and Negotiations – Dr. Anamika Barua from IIT Guwahati led an eye-opening session on United Nations climate negotiations, demystifying high-level advocacy and the art of diplomatic persuasion.
Climate Negotiation Sessions: Policy in Action
Session 1: Transitioning to Renewable Energy – With fossil fuels still dominating global energy grids, participants wrestled with the challenge of accelerating the shift to sustainable alternatives.
Session 2: Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security – Can climate-resilient farming practices feed a growing population while cutting down agricultural emissions? This session aimed to answer that very question.
General Body Session: Climate Finance – Money makes the world go round, and climate action is no exception. This session dived into the financial mechanisms needed to fund climate resilience projects, especially in developing nations.
The culmination of these intense discussions led to the formal passing of resolutions, where participants proposed and voted on key climate action policies formulated during the negotiations. This marked a significant moment, as the resolutions mirrored real-world UN climate agreements, reinforcing the legitimacy of youth-led policy recommendations.
A Legacy of Youth-Led Climate Action
As the curtain fell on YesEarth MCOP 2025, the closing ceremony left everyone on an emotional high. The energy, the ideas, the fire—everything pointed to one undeniable truth: the future of climate diplomacy is in the hands of today’s youth.
